READ

H.E. Sheikha Lubna Khalid Sultan al Qasimi is a pioneering woman. She was born a princess of the royal family of Sharjah in the UAE and became the first woman to gain a high-ranking job in the UAE government. She was appointed Minister for Economy and Planning of the United Arab Emirates in November 2004.

Sheikha Lubna is a role model for all young Emirati women hoping to become a successful businesswoman. She was a bright and diligent student at school and got good grades. These allowed her to study for a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at California State University. She completed her education by earning an Executive MBA from the American University of Sharjah.

Sheikha Lubna got job offers from all over the USA but decided to return to the UAE and make a success of herself there. She got a job as a computer programmer and worked ten hours a day. She was the only Emirati and the only woman in her workplace. She moved on to be a senior manager of information systems at the Dubai Ports Authority.

Sheikha Lubna’s talent, skills and experience were spotted by the ruler of Dubai. He appointed her as head of Tejari.com, a cutting-edge e-ideas project. This was her stepping stone into her position as one of the UAE’s leaders. She is now an ambassador for her country overseas and an example of what women in her country can achieve.
